Nick Robinson (Roun Meishi: Buoyancy Cloud, Illuminate Stillness) is a lay practitioner who attended lectures by Kobun Chino from 1977-1980 at Santa Cruz Center. Kobun’s teaching made a deep impression that persisted for the following two decades as Nick practiced with Sojun Mel Weitsman at Berkeley Zen Center. In the late 90s he began making trips to Jikoji to be with Kobun again. Kobun’s death in 2002 led to long period of withdrawal from formal zen practice and immersion in family, career, and musical pursuits. The pandemic prompted a return to Berkeley Zen Center, where Nick received lay ordination and the dharma name Rōun Meishi (Buoyancy Cloud, Illuminate Stillness) from Ryushin Andrea Thach in 2023. He returned to Jikoji for Kobun’s annual memorial service in 2026.
